Our Stores Apprenticeship Programme

Pop into an Aldi store, and you won’t see any dilly-dallying. Our people know what needs to be done, and they just get on and do it. It’s simple really, but it does take lots of drive. But if you’ve got that, our Store Apprenticeship Programmes won’t just give you a great start to your career it will put you on the right road to success. And if you combine hard work, ambition and an ability to apply yourself to any challenge, you could make it all the way to Store Management.

There are two pathways available for our Stores Apprenticeships:

Career Starter - For applicants with no previous qualifications you can apply for a Level 2 Retailer Apprenticeship which takes around 12-15 months to complete. You will also complete Functional Skills at Level 2 alongside this.

Store Management Apprenticeship - For applicants that already have their GCSE Maths and English grade 4-9 (minimum grade C or equivalent) you can apply for our Store Management Apprenticeship programme. You will complete both Level 2 Retailer and Level 3 Retail Team Leader which takes up to 36 months to complete.

A programme like no other

Day One

We don’t hang around at Aldi, and neither will you. So from the moment you start, you’ll be straight to it, signing your contracts, meeting your Assessor and completing all the paperwork to enrol onto your qualification.

Theory Work

On top of your daily duties, you’ll also complete theory work and do a couple of tests. But don’t worry, while you might need to do a bit of revision later down the line, there’s very little you won’t have learnt on the shop floor.

Assessor Visit

Throughout the whole programme, your Assessor will pay you a visit every month. This is just to make sure that you’re on course with your programme, and on track to succeed.

Quarterly Review

Every three months, you’ll meet up with your Store Manager, Area Manager and Assessor. Again, this is just to make sure you’re on track, and performing well.

Progress Review

On top of Assessor visits and Quarterly Reviews, you’ll also have Progress Reviews. Less formal than a Quarterly Review, they’re there to give you constant support and feedback about how you’re doing.

Store Assistant Training

You can get a lot done in ten weeks, but you’ll certainly have to knuckle down to get the Store Assistant role under wraps. If you do, you’ll quickly become a vital part of the team.

Teamwork

At Aldi, we just couldn’t function if our people only focused on themselves. Which is why you’ll start by learning how to get the most out of working effectively in a retail team.

Stocking Filler

No, this isn’t a little Christmas gift – this is all about your store’s stock. From checking levels to sorting out any problems, you’ll discover how to ensure we have the perfect amount of products on the shop floor.

Giving the people what they want

The major reason we’re doing so well at Aldi is because of our customers. They like us, and we love them. You’ll learn how to give them the best experience around, handling any queries with a confident smile.

Success!

If all's gone well you will now have achieved your Level 2 Retailer qualification. For our Career Starter apprentices you will now move into the Store Assistant role.

Success!

For our apprentices on the Management Development Programme you will be offered a 13-16 month contract and to work towards your Level 3 Retail Management qualification.

Store Management Training

This year, you’ll take on trickier challenges and discover how to lead others. Over the 13-16 months, you’ll work through several units and have regular assessments to check your knowledge and understanding.

Management Information

Understanding stock availability and ordering, merchandising, planning for key events – these are just some of things you’ll start to learn in the Management Information unit.

Management Responsibilities

Now you’re starting to get technical. You’ll learn how to take responsibility for ensuring Aldi standards and procedures are followed, and that everyone’s complying with legislative requirements.

Office Administration

While all the action happens on the shop floor, it wouldn’t be possible without all the behind-the-scenes buzz. This involves security procedures, regular paperwork, cash handling and banking.

Sales and Productivity

You’ve already helped to make your store a success, but now you’ll start to understand how to maximise store sales and productivity (which is fancy industry speak for ‘how many hours were needed to run the store’). Simple.

Managing People

We treat our people really well so, as a future member of the management team, you’ll learn how to do the same. This is all about understanding the Aldi Management System, and ensuring everyone knows what’s expected of them.

Staff Training

Yes, you’re still learning, but you can also pass on that incredible new knowledge. In fact, you’ll probably learn a thing or two yourself as you provide a high-standard of training to new and existing members of your team.

Ordering, Availability and Inventory Control

Imagine – someone pops in for their weekend milk and can’t find any. It could result in losing a potential customer. You’ll learn how to ensure we have the highest levels of availability at all times. It’s so important.

Inventory is all about managing our stock. We don’t want any wastage - or any empty shelves. You’ll learn how to make sure all processes are followed, and how to complete all paperwork to perfection.

Year Three

In your third and final year, you’ll develop your experience and practice the skills to become a Deputy Manager. With theory work and tests, regular reviews and Assessor visits, you’re coming to the final stages of your Apprenticeship.

Supporting Others

You’ve got some experience now, and it’s time to pass this knowledge on. You’ll be there for the team, leading by example to help them work efficiently and effectively.

Ordering Manager

This is about keeping on top of stock and ensuring our available goods are on the shelves and easy to find. That way, you’ll help to satisfy customers, generate sales, and make a real contribution to the success of your store.

Helping others deliver great customer service

As a leading store figure, colleagues will now come to you for help and advice. Using everything you’ve learnt, you’ll inspire them to deliver the finest customer service around.

Level 3 Retail Team Leader Qualification

If you exceed expectations, you may be asked to become a Deputy Store Manager. Or – if you’ve really excelled – you may even be offered the opportunity to progress to Assistant Store Manager.

Market-leading package

Through both pathways our apprentices will earn £8.44 per hour (£253.20 per week) in their first year. If you're in London, you'll get £8.67 per hour (£260.10 per week).

For those on the Management Development Programme this rises to £10.18 per hour (£305.40 per week) in year two and £11.83 per hour (£354.90 per week) in year three.

If you're in London, this rises to £10.62 per hour (£318.60 per week) in year two and £12.47 per hour (£374.10 per week) in year three.

Online application/CV upload

Questions such as "what’s your preferred location?" will help us see if you're right for the opportunities we have. Once you've submitted your application, our recruitment team will screen your answers.

Video interview

Lights, camera, action. This is your golden opportunity to showcase your knowledge of Aldi and brilliant leadership skills.
3

Interview

Following a successful video interview, you’ll be invited to an interview with a Store Operations Director at the nearest Regional Distribution Centre. After that you’ll take part in the ‘Aldi Experience’ in store, where you’ll get the chance to observe the different tasks you would be expected to complete in the role.

For our Career Starter- Stores Programme Apprentices do not require any qualifications.

For our Store Management Programme Apprentices will need GCSEs in Maths and English, grade 4 and above (minimum grade C or equivalent).
